Burundian forces in Somalia celebrate their 63rd national day.
the Burundi forces belonging to AUSSOM marked the 63rd anniversary of their country’s independence at Jowhar Airport in Sector 5.
Brigadier General Peter Kimani Muteti, Deputy Commander of AUSSOM in charge of Support & Logistics, praised the commitment of both Burundi and Somalia to freedom and cooperation.
He also acknowledged the important role Burundi plays in peacekeeping efforts in Somalia.Sector 5 Commander, Brigadier General Oscar Hatungimana, emphasized this year’s slogan: “True freedom depends on self-reliance, but without rejecting cooperation with others.”
He thanked the Somali government and communities for their support and reiterated AUSSOM’s dedication to protecting civilians and supporting vulnerable groups through efforts that strengthen cooperation between the public and the military.
Ms. Adja Sakho, Head of Administration for Sector Five at UNSOS, expressed gratitude to the Burundi forces for ensuring security in HirShabeelle and reaffirmed the UN’s continued support.
Senior AUSSOM officers, UN officials, partners, and community leaders attended the event.
