100+ MPs accused EU’s ambassador to Somalia role violation

Trusted sources have revealed that more than 100 members of both houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia are preparing to send a formal letter of complaint to the President of the European Union.

The MPs are expressing serious concern over the conduct of the EU Ambassador to Somalia, Karin Johansson.

According to the reports, the MPs are alarmed by Ambassador Johansson’s growing involvement in Somalia’s internal political affairs, particularly her perceived close relationship with Villa Somalia and the Office of the Prime Minister.

She is accused of opposing proposals from the C6+ group, which had called for an inclusive national consultative forum aimed at addressing the country’s mounting political tensions.

The lawmakers argue that Ambassador Johansson is no longer acting as a neutral diplomatic figure. Instead, they allege she is openly supporting Villa Somalia’s political agenda, thereby undermining the impartiality expected of her role. This, they warn, has raised deep concerns about the deviation of EU diplomatic engagement from its traditional stabilising role.

Further accusations include claims that Johansson has obstructed international efforts aimed at rescuing Somalia from its escalating political and security crises.

The MPs intend to deliver their letter directly to the President of the European Union and will also notify the African Union (AU) of their concerns. They argue that Johansson no longer represents a balanced and constructive diplomatic presence in Somalia, but rather has become part of the country’s political problem.

In their final plea, the Somali lawmakers are calling for a thorough reassessment of Ambassador Johansson’s role and influence in the country. They stress the urgent need for Somalia to receive genuine, impartial international support that prioritises national unity and long-term stability
